I have a pair of mosquito fish in a tank with two red spotted newts. The mosquito fish is about to give birth and I was wondering if the Newts will eat the fry.

If they can catch the fry, they'll probably eat them. My Chinese Fire Belly Newts can't even catch a lousy cricket.

well my newts have absolutely no problem catching crickets so I guess they will be able to catch the fry. this may sound a bit sadistic but I want them to be able to. A. don't have room for fry. B free newt food

It's a common enough practice. Guppies are regularly sold as feeders, and I think Mosquito Fish are, too. Plus, many people don't bother to remove their livebearer fry after birthing, leaving them to be preyed upon by the other fish.

That's nature for you. And it is definitely free newt food...if they can catch them. The fry just might get away.
