My melano betta is in my 26 gallon and was doing okay for a while bu tnow he is just mean. He beats up my gourami and stops the other fish from eating. If I move him into a small .5 gallon betta hex kind of thing, will he know and be all angry? Lol, I know he wont really be angry but will he be unhappy?

I've seen this happen so many times! Why/How are there so many of this one thread? There's one that was answered and there are three more...

forums are for asking questions!

Im not sure if you're particular betta will get mad.....i'd say they are all different....some actually prefer smaller amounts of water, others want to have lotsa space! depends on the fish.....if you have to move him you can try it temporarily, i've found that my bettas have done best in those little marina betta kits, i'm thinking about getting a couple more. anyways thats my opinion!! heeheh
good luck! ~dEx :*

Depends

My male lived in a 29 for about 6 months until I moved him, but I too was scared to move him to a small tank so he now has his very own 10 gallon.

I'd say a 26 to a half gallon is a drastic change, I wouldn't go any smaller than a 5

(bettas shouldn't be with gouramis anyway :/ )

I've always heard that, but, due to an emergency, Starbright ended up in the 55 gallon community tank a few days ago with 2 mature female gouramis and 9 younger ones (blues) and he came through like a champ! Here's a fish that, except for a few days in a 20 gallon tank, has never been in anything bigger than a cup and he coped with it and stared down all these gouramis.

Bettas are truly unique fish. Each one is so different from the next!

This is true, and I know that as well as anybody, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he turns on them one day. They ARE truly unique fish with one thing in common...they're fighters :/ not many fish carry that name and bettas do for a good reason ;)

I've heard too many stories of bettas living in communities for months, and one day the owner will wake up to a tank full of dead mangled fish :/ . That was my main concern with my males growing aggression and a large reason why he moved out of the community.I can't even count the number of "murder victims" I found while he lived in there  (it's ok, I love him anyway)

As for Starbright staring down the gouramis, I bet he did! :kira: He's sizing them up and figuring out the order in which to attack. He's a chicken hawk huntin' for a chicken :p

Hi wuv, :)

It was cute, though. He's so small and what there is of him is mostly fins and he seemed so timid until that time!

I'm fixing up another tank for him and some of the other corys. As it appears today, he doesn't seem to get along with the blind cave fish. When they swim past him he flares and I saw him lunge at one of them. Well, they can be accidental nippers and maybe one of them scared him. I think if there is going to be trouble, it could be with them.
