About three weeks ago I purchase a blue cobalt lobster online. I put it in a quarantine tank and then put it in my main tank. I made a nice shelter for it out of the large rocks that were in my tank. Only the baby convicts can get in the shelter (I kinda hope the lobster will prey on them). My question is will the lobster come out of his shelter at night to feed? He can't go very far at all from his shelter during the day because the oscar and the adult female convicts take a keen interest in him and he scurries back to his shelter.

95 Gallon Quarter Cylinder Tank
400 GPH Emporer Power Filter

1 9" Red Oscar
2 3" Female Convict Cichlids
1 3" Red-finned Shark (Rainbow)
1 3" Male Three-spot Gourami
1 5" Non-common Pleco
12 0.5"-1" Baby Convicts (That the Oscar is ignoring, but hopefully the lobster will eat)

I have my 7-8 inch blue lobster in with a Texas Cichlid and a Pink Convict. He comes out all the time during the day and night if he sees something he wants. Infact he catches the Texas all the time since the texas likes to go right to him. The Texas is big enough though to break out of the grip all of the time. I recommend you move the pleco though, my blue loves to eat them, even the foot long Pleco I had.

Blue lobsters are opportunistic feeders. My has become nocturnal but WILL come out during the day if hungry. They CAN catch and WILL eat fish if they want to. SH

I believe your crayfish will come out at night to feed, but I also would not be surprised with the fish you have in the tank for you to find it eaten someday. It will be especially vulnerable during molting.

How much space will it need to molt? I assume it will come out of it's shelter into open water to molt? If that is the case, then it sounds like it may need to go back into the quarantine tank or either I find new homes for the cichlids.

It really won't need much space to moult. I've seen them come into open water, and I've seen them moult in a cave, it really just depends.
