will melted anubis grow back, if others are doing well in the tank

if you save the rhizome, and roots in the tank???

It often grows back slowly but I wonder why it melted & the others didn't. I had an a. barteri (?) that was fairly large & when I cut the rhizome it had a few brown fibers in the middle. Neither half grew well even after cutting off the affected brown parts & slowly died. I don't know if it was a virus or what. I'd wait & see for a few months.
