Hi,

I have had 6 danios for a year now but after a few deaths I only have 3 left. I have left it a month to make sure there wasn't a problem in my tank but I have had no more deaths.

I know they are supposed to be aggressive in small groups but mine seem ok at the moment, mainly because they swim around with the harlequins all of the time which they have done from the start.

Would I be best to get some more to make sure mine are happy or if there isn't a problem just leave them as they are?

I have leopard danois and the shop near me only has zebra or pearl if I do get more does it matter which ones I get?

Thanks for any help.

It's up to you.. I know similar sized schooling fish will often school together.. if your tank isn't overstocked you might consider getting 3 more and see what happens..

The leopards, pearl, and zebra should school together.

Getting 3 more leopard or zebra danio's would be the best (zebra danio's and leopard danio's are actually the same type of danio, just different colour/pattern variations- they can also crossbreed with each other because of this), they will be a lot happier in a larger group as then they'll be able to shoal together properly.

My pearl danio's do occasionally shoal with my leopards, but they prefer to stay with their own kind most of the time- unlike the leopard and zebra danio, pearl danio's are a separate type of danio and not just a colour variation of the same type. If you were to take on pearl danio's, i would advise giving them their own separate group of 6 rather than just add them to your existing group of leopard danio's to make up for loss of numbers.

Thanks for your replys,

I will get some zebra danios then to make the group larger, then they can join the leopards and harlequin rasboras chasing each other round the tank at warp speed. :D
