I had awfull luck with corys. First batch all died I think because the holding tank I had them in was over stocked they were stressed. This time I got 3 peppers for my 55 gal just to test it out. 2 died within days. I now have one who seems to be doing fine. My temp did get high up to 80F but I lowered the temp to 75f.

The corys would hang at the surface then die. I feel awfull. I really want these little guys in my tank but I'm scared if I get more they will die. All my other fish are fine. I do a 40% water change every 5 days or more. My ph 6.5
Ammonian 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 20

It's a planted tank with sand. Lots of hide outs. 8 red eyes 2 blue acara 2 bn plecos and 1 lonely cory.

They tank has been up and cycled for only 3 months. I got all the corys from the same store both times. Are these guy sensitive to any kind of stress?

Why do all my corys die I feel like such a bad fish keeper. I want to get My lonly pepper some friends but I'm scared. Help!

That temp wouldnt of out right killed the cory's, did you acclimatise them properly?, one thing i guess is a possibity if they have come from a much high PH..... maybe they had a problem when brought, internal bacteria etc etc ..... i dunno just throwing a few things out there for you to consider, but i would be almost possitive that the temp isnt what has killed them :)

Dont htink yourself to be a bad fishkeeper, you seem to be ontop of everythink that needs doing..ie... water changes monitoring and stable readings, these things happen.. ive had cory's in the past which have seemed fine for weeks and then all of a sudden a couple from the group have died for no apparent reason whatsoever but still have the rest of the group 2-3 years down the line.

It Could have been because I rushed putting them in the tank. I added water to the old water dump some out add more tank water. I did this a few times over only 10 min. I'm going to try another shop tomarow see if they have better corys. Thanks wish me luck I really want these little guys I had 2 12 years ago in my first tank ever and I loved them.

I did not think it was the temp but Could not see any other reason why they all die. I think it must have been stress. From Ph or the other fish or just the move.

Like I said I am going to try again this time with fish from another store.

Hi snowflake311 :)

I just saw your other thread and asked the questions you have, quite conveniently, answered here. :D

If your tank has been running for a few months and the other fish are fine, I doubt that anything would effect just the new corys. More likely there was something wrong with them when you bought them. If you bought them locally, chances are that the lfs has water similar in pH to yours, so that's probably not the problem either. It's always best to use a quarantine tank before adding anything to your main one. Why take a risk of exposing your healthy fish to anything that could be wrong with the new ones.

Your C. paleatus are better off with water that is on the cool side rather than warmer.

Last time I used the qt tank I think that killed them. I was doing daily water changes. Then I added a few more fish that are still alive. The tank was A bit over stocked but I did daily water changes . Soon after adding the new fish all the cory cats died. All the new fish lived. I messed that up.

I think the fish are stressed and unhealthy to start with then they travel to my tank. Get put in a new place where my acara swim over as fast as they can to check them out. All that excitment adds more stress and boom dead fish. The ph could be off because I live at lake tahoe and went down the mountain to Carson 20 min away. Do you think that could be it??

I'm going to a different fish store on Friday. I'm going to be very careful and will try to QT them. Wish me luck.
