I know that's probably totally the wrong phrase, but I have 2 adult cory, 1 Julii and 1 Sterba. Plus a Juvenile Peppered.

Well my Julii has been getting increasingly fat. Looking at all of the 'egg filled' female pictures I've seen and how far from the gravel her nose is....I'm guessing she's full of egs.
But the only possible male in the tank could be the Sterba, and seeing as they don't interbreed... I was wondering if she would mature eggs even without a male.

Or perhaps as they have been brought up together she's confused?

Will she attempt to spawn alone? Or if this is more like a cycle, does she develop eggs and then if no male is present re-absorb?

She's absolutely fine healthwise which also puts me more towards a 'preganancy'.
And I've been doing alot of small water changes lately to get the nitrate levels right down, which seems to make sense that it could have been a trigger.

Your C. julii, which is more than likely a C. trilineatus is capable of filling with roe on her own. At some point she will deposit unfertilized eggs. The chances of her successfully spawning with any of her tank mates is virtually non-existent. - Frank

Oh no I knew there wouldn't be any fertilisation taking place.
I just presumed it was a hormonal trigger that cause the egg maturing process.
Ie. Fertile male hormonally triggers female then they spawn.

But okies, thanks and yes she more than likely is a C. trilineatus :)

ps. unless travelling particular distance she's more 'shuffling' than outright swimming.
That's worrying me slightly, or if she is ready to lay eggs is it likely she's just acting like any full term pregnant female(inc humans).Ie. bit more waddling than walking.

my lone hasbrosus drops eggs every couple of months - looking for a male to keep her company have tried ordering them but still no joy :(
