I'm getting a 70 gallon tank soon. It's fairly tall. Exact dimensions are 48"X16"X21"

Will 3 Clown Loaches mind a 48X16 bottom area?

I have clowns in a 48x24x19, they are very happy and love it
the only thing thats concerns me about yours is the 16" width.

They should be fine for a long time. Several years down the road you may have to rethink.

The fish avaliable to me are about 1.5", roughly how many years untill they get too big for the tank like that? I'm going to have to rehome my fish before leaving for college anyway; I have a LFS that loves to take large clowns and cichlids; they put them in 200 gallon display tanks and sell them for outrageous prices. If I get the tank I'm probably going to get the clowns.

My family is likely getting a large tank in a few years; It's going to be either 2'X2'X5' or 2'X2'X8', so between the possibility of pet store and massive tank, they should have a home. 3 6" clowns would be fine in the tank I described, right?

ya i think they would do good in that tank... hieght isnt too usefull for a bottom dweller ;)

I'm aware a 14 inch monster clown would not be happy in a tank like that, but don't clown loaches usually reach only 6" in the home aquarium?
