I have been looking into Cory's and my lfs stocks not only captive bred Cory's but wild caught ones too and I was wondering if there is any difference between captive and wild Cory's in behaviour and how easy they are to care for. I don't agree with wild caught fish but I would like to know if there is any difference between wild and captive Cory's from Tom

Wild caught:
Pros-less likely to be inbreeding/ crossbreeding issues, you know they aren't hybrids, you know they were produced naturally
Cons: will not have been bred specifically for color as many LFS cories would have been, more susceptible to aquarium diseases, is impacting on wild population, fish will be used to large areas to swim in and being confined to a tank would be stressful, are not used to tanks, feeding could be an issue, more expensive

Captive bred:
Pros- will be bred for beauty, are used to a tank environment, will be hardier, easier to feed, their existence isn't impacting wild populations, cheaper
Cons- difficult to know where they came from, could have breeding issues or faults

for me I'd always choose captive bred but it's up to you tbh. :)

Additional:
Captive bred are less sensetive and are environment friendly.

Wild caught are quite hard to feed at times

Wild caught can also come with a host of hitch hikers that will need treating and quarantine.
And wild caught are generally going to be more skittish to any movement outside of the tank.

Depending on how the wild caught fish where trapped they can be more prone to sudden unexplained death, especially if chemicals where used to stun the fish and make them easier to net. Also rough handling in nets and transport in general can take a heavy toll on any wild caught fish.

Some Coryspecies are very hard to breed. For instance Schwartzii en Leucomelas are mostly wild caught for that reason.
There are some natural hybrids as well Though lot's of species won't encounter eachother in the wild (living in seperate riversystems)
There are some color-breds, but all Corys are beauties in their "wild colors" so that's a small part (Black Venezuela's and Lasers I think)
