Sup guys, so im pretty chuffed with my self as my two wild caught cynptilapia afra ndonga have spawned.
The female (with brood) has been isolated from the rest of the group.
I didnt see the actual spawning. I only saw the male violently defending his rocks and colouring up like id never seen before.
This is a bit of a problem because i also own a group of wild caught synodontis multipunctiatus, im assuming most of you can allready see what im getting at.
The group of synos are mostly male and juvenile, but is it likely they have spawned with the cichlids?
Ive never successfuly bred either. Dont get me wrong i like the multis but the afra ndonga are so much more rare.

If only she'd just open her #41#### mouth and let me see!!

Any thoughs? I guess i could just wait, but im the kind of person that shakes christmas presents... I dont think ill be shaking my fish :D

Congrats these are very nice fish (not seen around to often either) Well she has probably bred with her male, the multi's won't spawn until they are fully grown(reached adulthood) although they do interfere with the cichlids when they breed, eating the cichlid eggs while laying their own so the female cichlid picks them up (you may know this already though :D)

Haha i think its fair to say i know my stuff about multis ;) hence the name. Been keeping them for years but never once have i seen them spawn around cichlids. Its weird.
Well hopefully they aint like human teenagers!

multis hatch much faster than afras but theres about a two week gap that they could have spawned in.
Thanks I was hoping i could rule out the multis! :D id never seen wc afras like them before so the ndonga are a real treat!!
I have to wait for her to drop em i guess. Far too excited. The only other mbuna ive bred have been fairly standard... Zebras, labeotropheus trevawasse, yellow labs etc.
This is a first breeding wc fish altogether too!

Yeah i guessed you would of done having a name like that lol :D

Im pretty sure she will have bred with her male so you should have some nice F1 soon hopefully. Wouldn't mind some Ndonga myself they are really nice fish.

Yeah, the F1 babies are really guna be something special.
Just got a bit of a peek into her mouth. There's quite a few fry in there. :D

The shop i bought them from had two wild pairs. From what im aware it still has one. Its called stevenage specialist aquatics but last year it moved to crews hill in enfield north london.
The pair that is left in the shop is a large male and a small female, i went for the smaller male for his size but the larger one had a gammy eye that wasnt ever going to get better. No ones fault im sure. They guy in the store was pretty pleased when he heard they bred seeing as hes interested in buying the babies. I think ill grow them about two inches before i even think of moving them. Ive got the space and time so why not wait!
