I noticed that lately, all of my danios (leopard and Zebra, male and female), have taken on a golden hue, one of them especially.

Does anyone know what's up with them? -_-

Thanks,
Brian Jagger

I'm not the expert here but it sounds like your Danio's may be stressed. Have you checked your waters' parameters? Danio2004, the real Danio expert here, may be able to help you further.

Are any of the other fishes showing signs of colour loss/change of colour?

I check your tank conditions, but IME it is a sign of good health as their colour brightens up. :)

Yeah, the water conditions are fine, I do about a 25-30% water change weekly, and the other fish are perfectly happy. My neon and glo-lite tetras have actually developed their natural whiteness on the tips of their fins within the past 2 months... It seems like they started becoming golden ever since I put in my RTBS but he doesn't bother anyone at all.

Hi , this sounds like nothing to worry about, It could be something as simple as they have kyathits dna in them and as they are getting older the orangeness is comming out. If there is nothing wrong with the water and they show no signs of odd behaviour don't worry about it.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. anyways, if they were getting stressed by the RTBS, he won't bother them anymore as he jumped out last night :(

Sorry to hear of your RTBS, Pilot :(

I just noticed the same thing with my danios. For the past couple of days, 2 of my zebra danios have become a vivid gold/orange color. I have 6 zebra danios, and these are the only 2 it has happened to. The color has become so intense that they look like a different species and you can immediately spot them when you look at the tank.

Those 2 are the smallest of the 6, and since their color change, they have become more aggressive. Both of them will gang up on one other danio at a time and chase it everywhere. They have been doing this non-stop all day. I thought maybe the color change and size meant they were male and they were trying to force the females to mate or something. Their fellow zebra danios (who are still just black and white) are the only fish they chase.

My alkalinity is low, but all other readings are OK.

Wierd. The Danio that I have that turned the most vivid goldish color is one of the smallest in the tank, but I have not noticed any extra aggression. They all just seem to play tag, chasing one until they get it and then reverse roles

do they look anything like these?

No, mine are just zebra and leopard danios that have suddenly taken on an orangish hue.
ok well as I have said earlier they may have some dna from kyathits so that would make then slightly different in colours
