Why put a thermometer in the summer?

A thermometer/heater will keep the temperature regulated at a specific level, this will smooth out any dips in temperature (ie. at night, etc.) As it turns on only when needed it will not consume much power anyway so best to leave it on.

HTH :)

if the temperature is above 76F, why would we put a thermometer on
To see if the tank gets too hot.

And, of course, you need the thermometer to make sure that the water is actually above 76F.

You cool it down.

Hehe, ok.

You can use a chiller to cool the water, but chillers are very expensive.

Some people will use regular additions of (self-contained) ice packs to cool water.

Evaporation is a very easy and efficient way to cool water, too. Usually done by somewhat 'opening' the top and having a fan blow air over it.

Thanks for your suggestions. Very helpful since it's getting warmer here.

Now I have my 2 goldfishes in their fishbowl gasping for air. Could it be they are too hot? I know they need cooler temperatures and the temperature is reaching 80 here...

the warmer the water - the less oxygen it holds...

cool it some how - or add and air stone to keep the surface moving...

To add oxygen in your tank you could always make a waterfall with your filter *Like I do with all my tanks* and because when the water breaks the surface of the tank water more oxygen in put in it! Well something like that anyway, all you got to do it break the water surface!

What kind of a bowl? How big are the bowls, and what kind of goldfish are they?
