i tryed to spawn my bettas red gold halfmoons yesterday anyways all was going good he was makeing the nest female was flairing at him and trying to get to him but i left them all night (female was in a beanie box in the tank) this morning i looked in great bubble nest but the male has blown his tail AGAIN he always does this when i try to spawn them do you think maybe they drag and slow him down flerting so he chews them of?

My personal theory on blowing tails is that it is done in a fight or flight mode in order to conserve blood flow and energy where it is needed, in the body, instead of in the fins. When a male is spawning he is flaring and displaying for the female and this takes a lot of energy as well, especially if his finnage is heavy. In order to continue with what he needs to do, he will blow his fins to reduce the expenditure required to keep them.

That is bettas by Sorrell...

The other theory is that with all the flaring that is done, the finnage simply cannot handle it and disenegrates.

As long as he's in clean water and you are able to keep infection at bay, the only real concern is cosmetic.
