Most places seem to charge more for the same weight - why should it cost more? I know it has more surface area makes it better for in filters etc - but just because of this it would cost more?

Or would it just work out the same too buy "rock" and break it up ourselves?

I have always wondered this. Sometimes you see £8.50 a KG and then like £12 for a KG of rubble

There is another word for it which I forget, its something like Grime or Grunge but it isnt, and it means the same thing as rubble and its cheaper. Its basically all the bits that fall off of the rocks at the huge holding pens and they bag it up and sell it.

Well this is the online prices I am looking at (should have mentioned it). My LFS's tend to be on the expensive side for almost everything, fish prices are okay, probably the only thing along with food I will buy locally sadly.

Never looked at rubble prices locally so might be worth checking.

Morri, I'm not too far from Glouc, any names you could throw my way?

Yip tis easy South West Marines one of the best shops in the area in my opinion :)

I would imagine the extra price comes from the time taken to turn the rock into rubble...

and of course there will also be waste during this process so that needs accounting for too.

obviously if they use the smaller bits already (as someone else mentioned) that is in effect waste from the larger rocks, so will be cheaper...

just my guess....
