"Why Utah?!"
Lucifer continuously blow his fins. And I mean all the bloody time. It starts with the webbing, which shred and falls apart, then the rays go next, and when it finally starts to grown back, even a little, it’s gone again. His rays now grown back bent and crooked, or not at all now.

It’s really irritating and I’ve tried everything to get him to @#%$&$# stop!!

Could he be biting them isntead? Or perhaps a persistant case of fin rot? Maybe give him some salt dips occasionally? Or just keep his fins trimed shorter..if they are long?

I doubt he's biting them, I've had fish do that and it doesn't look at all like that. And I've seen fin rot MANY times, and it's not that either. Salt dips stress the daylights out of him.

Lucifer is the only betta that does it out of all mine and all my friends' bettas.

And I thought about the flaring, but it has no effect. He doesn't flare at all, it happens, flares all the time, happens (as well as extra ripping).

;) I find that usually if they are biting their fins and tail there will be a trace of blood immediately after it happens. Are the ends red at all?

Or do the rays look like a twig after it's been stripped of leaves? Little tiny fragments will remain. I find that's usually a blasted tail.

Amos ate his tail a few times.
If that's what's going on, it will look like hunks were just cut right out with a scissors at different places. Here's a picture of it:

Most of my bettas have tails that are curled over on the bottom, or they get shredded up or torn or SOMETHING at some point. I wouldn't know if cts have the same issues as vts do, but I've done everything exactly right as far as I can tell and they still have issues with their tails.

It's extremely frustrating...
