I sed mthylene blue today and used very little of it and it made the water go very blue. I imagine it would dye plants and cause other problems, it also can damage the biological filter, so be careful.
I wouldn't put it in until you have more information. What are you treating for?
hi
we used methylene blue in our 37 uk gal about 6 months ago - we used the recommended dose as stated on the packet(interpet) & our water was DARK NAVY blue ( almost black) for about 10 days( yes we did check our dosing)...............our poor fish were in the dark & i mean dark ......that was with the lights on for all this time & even weeks & weeks later the tank water in our bucket when we did water changes was dark. our plants which had been looking good, definitely did not look good after, no surprise theyd had no light for ages. theyve nearly all recovered but we would not use this stuff again. our tank looked like a big square ink pot for weeks - you could hardly even see the fish during this time!!!!
I didn't put much in, its not a dark navy more or a light blue, the fish seem to be happy, and I think the plants are still getting plenty of light, thanks tfor the reply. I put about half a capful in which is half the recommended dose, this way it won't make my water too dark and it should help the sufferers too.
MethBlue has dyed EVERYTHING in my tank blue. Even the decorative rocks. My silk plants are blue, the snails turned blue...Everything sucks up blue out of methblue. It works like a charm, tho.
