Why Are Neon Tetra

not recommended for new tanks?
who told you they werent recomended
usually neon tetras are a good fish fish for a tank
a lot of fish stores will recommend buying 5 or 6 neons before you go on to buy other fish as they are cheap nice looking and good for testing your water levels usually if they live then your water is sutible for other fish

They need to be added when your tank matured in six months time.

^^ As above. They're very sensitive to water conditions fluctuating and are therefore normally the first to go if things aren't 100% stable. Hence why they're no good for new tanks.

yeah i made the mistake of adding neons right after my
fishless cycle  lost a few
but after that they were great!

Prmdc098 - please don't listen to your local fish store! They will also tell you to add fish after a week of filling a new tank! the majority of fish stores give misleading info because they are only interested in making money

Neons are NOT good first fish and shouldn't be put in a tank less than 6 months old.
