I have a juvenile green swordtail in a 2.5g with 2 panda cories. Only half the tank top is covered by the flourescent light. I went to look away from the living room computer just to peek at the tank to see if the cories are playing. I was looking where the swordtail was hiding and couldn't find him anywhere. Pretty good, I thought. I went toward the tank when I spotted a glistening movement more than 2 feet away from the tank. Eeek! I thought it was dead. Damn, such a nice long green sword, too. But then he flipped a little, so I picked him up and put him back in the tank. He seemed a little bit shocked, but then calmed down.

More than 2 feet... Impressive.

WOW that sucker could jump, I had a betta who jumped atleast 5 feet in the floor plus a 2 feet drop But she was half dead but now shes healthier then ever. :)

Sword tails are made to jump I once had a betta jump 1.5 feet and lnd in a bowl of water It was a few years ago and I baught a betta and then my big brothe accidently droped his vase (long before I learned about good fish keeping) so we put him in a large bowl of water then we put the other betta (a female) in another bowl he shot around his bowl and jumped out an hit the kitchen floor then I picked him up and put him back in his bowl then he jumped again about 30 minutes later and landed in the other bowl.

My goldfish can jump  He jumps straight up out of the water completely vertical and then drops back down!!

Just thought I'd add mine :*)

Good thing you went to check on them! I'm glad he's alive and doing okay. :)

I was going to get an oto for the tank, but the swordtail is eating up all the algae! I didn't know they did that.
