This is my weirdest betta episode yet. The other day I glanced across my bedroom at my veil tale, Uther, and saw immediately that something was wrong :  :. He was lying listlessly at the bottom of his aquarium, without any of the perky swimming that I'm used to. I went over, and noticed about a quarter inch of java fern sticking out of his mouth (about this much)___ . He was trying to spit it out, extending his mouth really wide, but to no avail. As I approached, he swam to the surface, and after several tries I managed to pull the plant out. Get this: he had three quarters of an inch of java fern inside of him= _______! His body’s only this long:____________________ . Boy did he look relieved when that fern was gone! (he’s fine now). I have absolutely no idea how or why he got it there. My best guess is that he nibbled a bit at a time and got himself stuck! :sly:

Has anyone heard of this before? Anyone know why it happened? I just can’t believe it!

Oh man, that could have ended in tradgedy! Lucky u were around!

My cat has eaten a birds tail feather before, she found that hard to cope with so ended up giving up I kid u not it was atleast 10cm's.

And my dog, oh this is funny, one day we were watching her out the window and she seemed like she was having a great deal of dificulty 'passing' something. We rushed out thinking she was in trouble and not joke, she had swallowed a whole STICK! It was about 20-25cm's in length!  Man, she makes us laugh nearly evryday! :D

But thats really lucky u were there for your betta!

Wow, I've never heard of a betta doing that
Lucky you were there to save him!!

When I was little we had some chicks on our farm, and they were out pecking in the hay one day... then we noticed that they were swallowing whole pieces of straw and the tips were sticking out of their mouths
We had to pull it out piece by piece

my old cat used to like to eat tinsel from the christmas tree. we see her walking around with a little bit hanging out her mouth and we'd have to pull the whole strand out. we stopped using tinsel

Yeah, I am so glad I was there. Only the week before I'd been away, and my dad had been taking care of Uther. When I came back, there were two dead bugs floating in his aquarium. (In through the little slot at the back.) -_- . I suspect that dad had just sprinkled food in, and not looked at anything too closely. He very easily wouldn't have noticed Uther's attempt at vegetarianism :p !
And what's amazing, is that he acted completely fine once I took the fern out. It must not have been there for that long. Crazy fish! :)

Same here, it was bad enough her eating it and having to pull a yard of it out of her mouth with her fighting me all the way, but it was really bad coming out the other end. :*) No more tinsel for our house!

Holy moly...
that's quite a story.

Did you take the rest of the plant out of there so he doesn't do it again?
Eek.

Glad to hear he's okay!
