Who Is This Interloper Fry?

He looks like a pepper to me, but his spots are not blotchy, they tend to vertical lines, his dorsal spine is not a long fin and is very black unlike any of my regular peppers, and none of my peppers (long fins or regular) get anywhere near this tank--not even eggs are ever hatched in this tank--no need.

I suppose I could go check planet catfish, but I am so bad at ID's, I would have to post on the board. I am waiting to see if someone at Bryan's knows.

The more I look the more I know it isn't any of my fish's fry. So now I suppose I will have to add him to my "necessary to get" list.

I would say it is a juvenile C. paleatus, like most Corys the pattern will change as the fish grow.

Thanks Ian. I don't know how he would have gotten to that tank in the bathroom from the 100 USG in the living room. I have never had peppers in that tank, not even fry in the nets. My pepper fry all have the splotchy irregular smudges and not regular vertical dotted line arcs.

Thanks, Ian, I suppose we will see what he becomes. Looking at the peppers now I can see that it is a possibility that he could be, but also his dorsal is striped.

I went and had a look at mine. I have tons of little ones. I don't have any that have that design instead of the splotches, but I do have several with a top fin just like that one. (with the black strip)

His dorsal is striped like his tail is only with horizontal stripes coming off the spiney black ray.

I am pretty sure he is a pepper now. Silly little fish. I don't know how he swam to the tank but I will have to put him back with his mates.
