Hi everyone

I keep discus and am thinking of getting some zebra plecs if I can get my hands on them. Does anyone on here keep them.

I live in the UK. does anyone know where I can get some from?

Thanks

Rob

the information I was given when I asked about them at the LFS is that they're endangered so not being imported now I believe. You'll be very lucky to find any and if you do they'll be very expensive.

Occassionally I've seen one or two come up on ebay from breeders who have 1 spare.

Zebra plecs will turn up now and then but expect to pay atleast £120 for a 1" specimen.

Although when considering buying zebra plecs, you should be buying them in hope of breeding them to preserve this gorgeus species.

Also, be sure you are getting the fish from a legitimate source. There are very few places that are succesfully breeding this species. You will find plenty of people selling them at crazy prices and usually those are the smuggled ones. The Brazilian Government placed a ban on the export of those fish in recent years.

as most have said - they are rare and expensive....

they are fantastic little fish though - If its a cute small plecs your looking for then most of the hypancistrus will be a great alternative ;)
