White Stuff On Rock ?

anyone have any idea what this white stuff is on my rock ? it has happend over night so i have no idea what it is. i thought it was just sand or something but after closer inspection it isnt. someone said could be whitespot but i thought that effected fish not rock. any ideas ? thanks

It could be the white skeletons of died off coralline red algae that seem still around there. This happens often when the LR tank is a few weeks old.

I had this, too, and I read that the adaption to the new lighting conditions may cause this. My white plaques seem to be overgrown by the still intact neighbouring coralline red algae again.
 
ah ok thanks, i did change the lighting a few weeks ago so makes sense
 
Rocks are not affected by whitespot along with most if not all other parasites as they usually require a live host normally in the form of a fish to thrive!

that deof is die-off as near enough everybody I know has had it in there tanks one time or another, it is most common during cycling or under changes in lighting!
