Hi thanks for looking

yesturday added a royal gramma to my tank. When she finally came out from hiding I noticed a single White spot on her tail fin. Is this he dreaded White spot disease? She ate loads and seemed fine swiming etc

Water pars are spot on. Is it just the stress of catching bagging releasing etc? Should I medicate or hang on and see I she shruggs it off?

I have a 2 clowns and a newly added coral beauty that all seem fine.

seperate it into a tank by itself and wait and see if it develops

in a month if there is no more spots it should be fine to re introduce

but get it out FAST!

Thanks for the advise. Can't remove the RG as I don't have another tank to put her in. Is there anything else I can do?

Is your UV on? that might help when the parasites are free swimming, but I would seriously consider getting a small QT or even a bucket/container that you can put the fish in for a few weeks, with frequent water changes you only need a heater, and an airstone then you can reduce the SG to 1.013 to 1.010ppm thus causing Osmotic shock to the free swimming/newly encysted parasites.
There are far more experienced people on here who will no doubt be able to advise on 'in tank' solutions, but I have had no problems using the above on a short term basis before putting my fish in tank.
Fingers crossed for you

Dont reduce the salinity that low f you have corals! But other than that, it may work if you dont. Do it very slowly and raise it back up very slowly after aswel.

One other thing, some fish show stress spots after being moved.Could be these.

Havent you an old HOB filter and a plastic toy box or something?

Sorry I didn't make it clear that the fish had to be in QT to do the SG reduction, quite right Ben, corals and inversts would probably explode if this was done in the tank!

Cheers guys for all the help. I'm sure I can find something to use but it's going to be catching her that's the trouble due to the way I have my rocks. I've haven't heard of these stress spots but I'll look it up.

It may be my imagination but I think the spot on her tail is getting smaller. I'll watch her tonight and make a decision in the morn.

I do have uv running.

Ok. Think I'm going to set up a QT anyway and have it ready. as my mate will lend me his old 38 litre tank
in the morning. I have a spare heater and pump etc.

Can someone talk me through how to set it up? What salinity? Temp? Does kh and ph have to be the same as main tank. Does the
fish need to aclimated to it(drip method In a bag etc). How often water changes? Sorry for guys I know this is a little tedius

oh and will it need to cycle or do I use water from main tank? Or will it be infected??

Really really sorry but you advice is needed as I'm still a major newbie

Been looking at him this morn for ages. He's got no other spots on him just the little one on his tail. He is acting normal. Swiming around the tank in and out of wholes. Breathing is normal and ate well. No other symptoms apart from the spot.

Could this be a fungus? Just thinking out load really. Anyone?

Cheers

Hi, whilst I hope that its not Ich, it may be worth getting it out of your main tank anyway, in case you have to treat it.
For the tank, just need a filter and an airstone, use half tank water then add fresh saltwater to the quarantine tank.
If it is Ich, then through progressive water changes you can reduce the salinity in the tank, the principle being that the parasite in its free swimming phase cannot osmoregualte and literaly explodes, this also works on the newly encysted parasite as it shatters the cyst, once hardened tho its pretty immune to changes in SG for a few days.
Don't add any substrate to the tank as the parasite drops off the fish and floats to the bottom of the tank and so it is easier to remove waste and parasites by syphon if its empty.
Put someething in for the fish to hide in.
Try and keep your ph the same as your main tank.
Hopefully you wont need it but hope the above is of some help.
Good luck

Just one spot?
white spot usually starts on the fins too rather than tail
Sorry my bad. It's on his fin at the end of his tail. The Tail fin if that makes sence. And yes only one. Could this be a fungus or like a stress spot?? rather than ich. Or am I just hoping? it's just that from the photos I've seen the ich normally spreads and there are lots of little spots. And as I said also no other symptoms. But I guess it could still be early days for the parasite.

Great that's just the info I needed i'll get that sorted out and if I need it, it's there ready to go.

Thanks guys your great for helping me.

Ok so the hosptial tank is setup and ready for action the salinty is about 1.017. Can't get it any lower as I ran out of fresh ro water. Anyhow will buy some later.

The gramma is looking exactly the same with just the one spot. No change in behaviour, seems happy and eating.
