Hi

I have a 33 gallon tank with 3 x three spot gouramis, 10 neons, 3 clown loaches (small approx 2.5 inches), 2 bristle noses. Water temp raised to 29 celcius. Amonia = 0, Nitrite = 0

I have been fighthing whitespot for a while now using meds.

Only the loaches and a few of the tetras are showing the visable signs of the disease.

I firstly did a half dose of the med due to having clown loaches and the LFS said just half dose. I ave since done a full dose when after 6 days the loaches only showed very small inprovement.

Now i am halfway through the second dose and 1 loach looks fine now but 2 are still showing many spots and some of the tetras. Even the loaches whic have many spots are acting fine and eating and swimming around fine. To be honest other than the spots they are better than ever.

All the gouramis are fine.

What shoudl I do? Carry on treating using the meds for course after course until it is gone?

Or some other approach?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

how old is the medication, it can lose its effectiveness after a while. we are told to only use half the recommended dose when loaches are present but i think if you are careful not to exceed the normal dose then it can be ok as long as the dosage, volume to water is worked out properly. i think med makers state these half dosages to cover themselves knowing that alot of people will make the mistake of over calculating this dosage

Just be careful adding too much medication with loaches and if they show any signs of gasping for oxygen(round the pump, filter etc)do a 50% water change.
