my oscars recently have shown signs of w.spot.and my tank has a infestation of small worms on the glass.my question is does white spot efect oscars and what do i do about getting rid of those worms.
First of all ....Hi and welcome ANTO.B, this is a friendly place so don't be worried to ask any question and someone will eventually get round to answering it
For the whitespot get a proprietry protozoacide like 'Protozin' and get it sooner rather than later - the tank will need a few doses, follow the instructions.
As far as the small white worms go I can't remember what they are called possibly planarians, they are harmless non-parasitic flat worms. Could have been introduced on plants or live food, but if they have reached large numbers then this is usually indicative of overfeeding or uneaten food, or a lack of routine maintenance.
Also, increase airation and raise temp (slowly) to 28 deg.C. This will speed up life cycle of parasite and make treatment more affective. Ich generally doesn't tolerate temps over 30 degs.C. I also use protozin, It's highly effective and doesn't effect filter bacteria like some other treatments can. Aside from the worms keeping the tank cleaner will benefit the fish's resistance to any secondary infections (bacterial or fungal) that could occur if outbreak turns out to be severe (due to tissue damage).
