Thanks Wilder.
Unfortunately, the tetra is now dead.
Will feed peas this morning. The barbs are still acting strange, but thankfully still alive.
Can't believe that shop. All this seems to have happened since I bought the new fish.

Will let you know any updates

I bought bad fish from LFS. So I do know how you feel.

I would strongly suggest investing in a quarantine tank, This way you are not putting your fish at risk everytime you add new fish to the tank.
The quarantine tank can also double's up as a hospital tank.
It just saves alot of heartache.

Sorry for your loss. :rip:

Thank you for the update.

Hi,
Realy don't know what to do now...both sharks have serious rotting of the fins...that's what it looks like anyway, or something has been biting the pair of them...what should I do?

Finrot common when fish have whitespot. Secondary infection.
The whitespot med should help abit. Get back to the board if the fins start to get worse. Fins falling off in chunks. White, pink, red edges to fins. Holes in fins.

Things can get worse before better. I do know you are having a hard time of it at the moment. It does make you think about giving the hobby up.
It passes. You learn from it.

Good Luck.

I'm just really tempted to put them out of their misery. It's painful watching them. They used to be the most boisterous and lively of all the fish. I noticed yesterday they didn't eat either.

It is really saddening. I'm just really angry about that LFS.
Really don't want to have a total tank loss...the other fish seem fine (the barbs are still doing thei acrobatics and I'm still fedding some peas every other day), but the cardinals were fine also, then a couple of days later two were dead.

Is the fin rot liable to spread?

Thanks for all your advice Wilder, you've obviously had your fair share of heartache in the hobby. My wife is a vegetarian and would love me to rehouse the fish and sell the tank as she finds it even tougher than I do.
But I do love the tank and so do my two young boys, so really don't want to give it up.
Just seems since I added them new fish, it's all gone downhill. Will definitley consider getting a quarantine/hospital tank.
Probably a stupid question, but does that tank need to be on and running all the time?
It's a matter of space unfortunatley.

I had 3 tanks running once. Got down to one in the end. Just let them all live there lives out.
At times I do miss it. But I don't want all the hassle of it anymore. I think I over did it with having 3 tanks. It was all water changes, maintenance.

You don't need to have a quarantine tank running all the time. You just set the quarantine tank, hospital tank, up when needed.
You will need to run some extra filter sponges in your main tank. So you can take them when needed
I just took a few gallons from main tank, and filled rest up with fresh water, using water conditoner.

How long do you have left to treat?

If a fish is stressed it immune system will be weak causing disease.
Bacteria lives in the water so It best to keep up with water changes when fish are sick.

Here a link to finrot. It explain it far better than I could.

Thanks for link. Just fed the fish and the sharks are still not eating.
The scales appear to have turned purple on the top

Is it possible to load a pic onto the site.

Do the scales look like there turning black, or a blood red colour?
Turn tank lights and take a look also.

Is there any red streaking on body, or fins.
Are the gills turning purple also.

Can you post latest water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Have just took some photo's, just trying to get them onto Photobucket

OK. Good work.
I just been looking at some silver sharks pics. Sometimes they can look abit purple in places.

Hi Wilder,

Here's a direct link to the photo's.
The first photo is a couple of days ago.
The last three are how the shark has got worse.

Where the link?

Poor little mite.
I can't see the purple on the fish scales. Just keep an eye on the gills.
As if they turn purple you need to do an immediate water change. Also if they start to gasp, or signs of laboured breathing.

When do you finish medication treatment?
As I think I would maybe change to another brand of whitespot medication.
Interpet anti whitespot medication is good.
