Hi guys, I have been battling with whitespot for what seems like forever. I posted about it about 2 weeks ago and got a link about using salt. From that I worked out that I needed to use 18 table spoons os Sea salt or table salt. Anyway I used thwrong one, please dont ask it's quite embarrassing  . So I decided to use a chemical white spot treatment instead. Used the exact amount it said but it never worked. So now I put the carbon back in and decided to use the table salt in the day before yesterday. I have used 12 table spoons so far but my fish have all gone very lethargic. They just seem very ill like they dont have any energy. They also seem to have stopped eating. I got in last night and my Parrot seemed to be almost dead flipping around everywhere, upside down swimming etc... The only thing I could think to do was move him to an empty 40gal I have, which I did. He seems better this morning swimming properly and even eating. Could it just be the salt? I have no idea what to do now so any advice or help welcome but it isnt looking good for them at the minute. :(

It appears that you are treating your 90G for ich. If so there are fish in there that do not tolerate salt very well and if I were you I would do a large water change to dilute the salt as much as possible.

Please stop using salt in your freshwater aquarium. Use the correct whitespot dose and increase your temperature to around 80-82 for a few days.
Did you not learn from the last time you put salt in?

I know a lot of people do indeed swear by using aquarium salt to treat some illnesses and stop open wounds on fish from getting infected. I've never tried it myself and don't think I will either to be honest.

I agree with what has been said before, do some water changes to try and reduce the salt in the water. I also recommend giving the chemical ich cure another chance. I've always had success with Sera medications. Turning the temperature of the water up a little should also faster the life cycle of the ich and make things pass faster. One thing when using medication though, is that you should make very sure you've got a good air supply coming into the water. The meds often draw out a lot of the oxygen and cause your fish to become largetic and often go to the top of the water gasping for air.

What are you talking about? I have never ever used salt before. I used it in this instance because of the link In was given which I'm certain had a lot more to back up their use than you have saying not to use it!

And try reading I said I used the correct dose of whitespot treatment.

They are saying you have to much salt in your tank, some fish can't tolerate the salt which is why your fish was ok in another tank. I am battling ich at the moment myself and the treatment I have has to be reaplied every 24 hours until symptoms go away. The white dots on my fish are disapearing quickly after 3 days of treatment. I do believe that I will do 2 more days to be sure. Another tip is when you ask for advise do not put down the person trying to give it. If you do not like what you hear ignore it otherwise people will stop responding to you.

I never put anyone down. He had a go at me for what seemed like nothing. Btw I wouldnt stop treating urs yet as the white spots are not the main issue. These fall off and go into another stage in the substrate, this is the stage that the treratments kill so once the spots dissappear keep treating for about 4-5 days to make sure it kills all the parasites in the substrate. The treatment doesnt kill the Parasite while it is in the white spot stage.
