Hi

I had a nitrite and amonia problem 8 days ago.

Which then quickly led to whitespot for 80% of my fish.

I added salt to assist with the white spot and reduced feeding etc to help get the bio filter back to requirements.

The end result has been the 2 clown loaches have died - and now the water is perfect.

Well 0 nirite and 0 amonia. PH still 6.9. Temp 28.

However the other fish - these being 3 spot gouramis (4 of them), neon tetras, a pearl gourami and a dwarf gourami.

Are now looking fine and showing less and less signs of white spot.

The LFS told me to put the white spot treatment in once the nitrite was back to zero.

But now it is back to zero should I put the treatment in or leave the fish to get over it on their own???

The only reason I'm asking is some have said the treatment is quite harsh so could cause problems of its own. If this were not the case it would be a no brainer to treat I guess.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Leave the fish on alone. Most ich meds will stress the fish and may induce the infestation again.

How long has the tank been running?

How long have you had the fish in the tank?

How often do you do gravel cleaning?

How often do you do water changes? How much water is removed?

Hi Ed

Tank has been running only 8 weeks.

Fish other than initial tetras been in there for 6 weeks. Started with tetras and slowly built up after cycle.

Had a Nitrite prob when loaches were added which then caused the White Spot (I think).

Water perfect now (Zero Ammonia, Zero Nitrite, PH = 6.8 )

Water change 20% each week. Including gravel Vac.

Cheers

Maca
