last week we got 2 new pieces of wood for our planted tank. we purchased them from a very good aquarium shop that had them in a pond tanks in the back. the specialist there said they would be fine to put in our tank after a rinse. the wood already had java moss, and some small clover/plants growing on them.
there now seems to be a soft white fuzz growing on parts of them. what is this? is it dangerous for our fish? we have a tank heated to 82 degrees. Is the temperature progressing a growth of mold? everything in the tank seems to be doing fine.... hmmmmm

Probably slime mould, it wont harm the fish but does eventually cover the entire wood. I had it on a piece of my wood, i tried boiling, baking, bleaching the lot to no avail, i eventually binned the wood and replaced it. then replanted the plants on the new piece

i had a piece of wood just like this
scrub it all off and try soaking it in a bucket with a strong dose of anti algae treatment for a few days

Try using melaluca oil (tea tree oil), it is good for fungal and mold invasions. Just follow the instructions on the bottle (if you can find one for aquarium use) if not use the pure oil just a drop or so per gallon. Your tank will smell a bit like a hippie but you’ll get used to it.
