white fungus stuff

i have a 55gal tank with 2 ocars and a jack i just noticed that the ocscars both have a white fugus like thing on there heads. could this be on the onset of ich because i have noticed a few spots i have treated ich before and am whell awar of what to do but are my fish getting hit with a double wamie

Is it actuall fungus looking ? Oscars and and many South American cichlids are prone to Hole In the Head. This sometimes starts off as fungus looking spots them turns into craters ( holes ).
If ick you will see noticable spots on fins, boby of the fish. Ich is very viss. at both early stages and late stages. So if it is ich you shouyld notice spots all over for the most part.

If it is Hole in the Head you will have to treat it because this is a disesase that CAN NOT be reversed but can be controled. With hole in the head the existing holes will remain and if left untreated can and will get bigger and deeper. But, don't let me worry you becasue not seeing it first hand I am just throwing out thoughts / speculations.
I kept oscars with my severum, leperinus species and my oscars had it. The other fish didn't though. Both oscars lived long happy lives but I am sure it was not a pelasent experience for them.

yea i have had meny oscars and it they always get hole in head even when i cleaned the take twice a week. but yes they also have ich too so im treating them for that too. it sucks that they have both.

What are you using for the ich? And what for the Hole in the Head?

Maracide for ich if you are on this side of the Pond. I use this med and HIGHLY recommend it for ich and several other external parasites.

For hole in the head, Hex-A-Vital by aquatronics. I have used with good results.
And , Hole -n- head gaurd. Not sure who makes it. Been awhile but I will check.

I wish I had the patience and time to keep discus.. But, there are right up there with the Oscars when it comes to Hole -n- the Nog.... Ooops hole -n- head... LOL


Someday I will set me up a Discus tank. Till them Victorians all the way ... with the exception of the few Malawi and Tangs. Can't forget the old ball SA ,corycats,goldfish(not mine , the kids),
