My heater and filter has got some rather strange white fungus on it, Is it a form of algae? or infection? my fish seem to be nibbling at it and seem quite happy for it to live in their home, im just worried that it might be harmful to my tank mates (guppies).

Just wondered if any peeps out there could shed some light on it. What things need to be done to get rid of it or control it.

Cheers
