hi all iv noticed some white sort of fluffy looking stuff appearing on my wood in my tank and im not sure what this is it was not there the other day and now its just appeared over night and is now slowly spreading on the wood

i have taken the wood out the tank as soon as i noticed it just incase it would harm my fish or cause problems with my water params any ideas what it could be?

it is very common in news tanks i dont no why but if yours is a new tank i wouldnt worry about it, it will die off in a few months but no matter how much u scrub it, it will just come back until its ready to go. it has happened to me with a new peice of wood in an astablished tank. but if it is an old peice of wood in a old tank then i dont no what it is

tanks been running for a while now and the wood was added the same time. so it wont cause any problems to my water and can go back in my tank then?

It should not harm the fish. Is the wood new ? Because most new wood leeches this white stuff if it is not properly soaked out of the tank first. Your fish will probably just end up eating it off, and if they dont just scrape it off and do a couple lrg water changes and it should go away. :good:

One of my pieces of wood did that, & still does from time to time, but the fish just eat it.
It looks unsightly, but won't harm the fish

i would keep it in. i have never heard of it harming any fish. my kuhli loaches ate mine
