My tank now has a white cottony looking film on the glass, in the fake plants, (I don't have real ones just yet), in the intake tube for the filter, and just about everywhere. This started about 6 hrs after treatment began. The Maracyn insert stated the water would be cloudy but didnt say anything about this. DO I need to remove this stuff after and clean it as well as the glass or do I just wait and let it clear. I am not taking tank params right now as I don't know what I could do at this point even if things were off.

PLEASE, All comments and advice welcome.

Sorry MrB - I've no idea what this could be, but sure someone else will know - hold on for a more informative answer.

Just a thought, have you finished medicating the tank? If so, how about doing a water change and put some carbon in the filter to get rid of all the medication.

do you have any fish in the tank? i have seen this on fish but never on plants and glass. it is a fungus. have used clout to cure this in the past. it does stain your tank. will turn the silicone a blueish color.

We had this in our NEW aquarium (never treated with medication). It was growing on some of our fomites (especially a rock that we have).

I was concerned about it, so I would scrape it off daily, but soon noticed that my rainbow sharks would clean it off for me. It has since disappeared COMPLETELY after a period of about two weeks. I suspect that it's a filamentous form of algae without the usual green/brown/blue phytopigments. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't get too aggressive with this. Our tank has been without treatment and has had total resolution of the filamentous growths for about a month.
