I'm in the process of getting a new tank started and today is the third day that it's been filled with water.

A little earlier I noticed some sort of whitish, almost sheer, mold-like stuff growing in various places on the piece of wood I have inside the aquarium.

A rather poor picture of said stuff...

Any speculation as to what it could be? Will it be a problem?

The store clerk said the wood was "aquarium ready", which I presumed to mean treated in whatever appropriate fashion...

Thanks in advance.

Mine had the same thing. It is harmless, it is some of the sap that is in the wood coming out - or something like that. For me it showed up and was gone in a few weeks. I had some snails come home accidentally as part of the plants I bought. They made short work of the stuff....unfortunately though that led to a snail bloom in my tank. I just sucked them out as I've down water changes, and I haven't had a problem with them. They are around my tank, but they are just a part of it now. They help keep the glass clean.
