Hi
So I recently got some White Cloud Mountain minnows and I believe she is pregnant as she is very fat, so I put he in a hatchery box to lay her eggs. Should I add a Male? Or leave he alone in there?
please help I would be very great full,
Thanks a lot.

White clouds are egg layers. The female lays the eggs and then the male fertilises them. Females alone may expel eggs but they will be infertile.

However, breeding nets are too small to keep these fish in. You need to release the female back into the main tank. If you want to breed them you need to set up another tank.

Here is a very good link on how to breed egg laying fish

White clouds are egg layers and should not be put into a breeding net. Just leave her in the tank with the other white clouds and they will breed when they want to.

thx for the reply I have only going to have her in there to lay her eggs and then release her so the eggs can hatch in the net.

She will not release fertile eggs. The male must fertilise them immediately after they have been released. It is only livebearers which are fertilised internally. And the female is unlikely to release any eggs without a male present.

These fish cannot remain cooped up in a tiny net, it is incredibly stressful for them to be kept in there.

Please release the female. And please, please do not put a male in with her in such a tiny space. These fish need to be able to swim properly.

If you want to breed them you need to set up a new tank for them. Condition the males and females separately then put them in the breeding tank. Once the eggs have been laid the fish are removed back to the main tank and the eggs left to hatch.

Yes, please release the female back into the tank. Those breeding nets/boxes are far to small...

Your lady is fat because A) She is full of eggs or B) Just ate a huge meal. These guys will breed easily and are not all that aggressive to their fry, so if you have the right conditions, you'll likely get babies without your interference.
