Hey, I have a whipser filter PF 30 in my 29 gallon aquarium. It came with it in a set with the heater and all that good stuff with the All Glass Aquarium company. I've been asking around wiht my friends and im confused about this. Are whisper filters good filters? Or are they crap becfuase of the no bio wheel, and the bio-bag that it has that has 3 in 1 and could be unreliable... is it true that its a bad filter or no?

IMO it's a good filter for a community tank. the bio wheel just helps with your biological filtration

I run one of those on my 20 gallon. The Whisper filters have come along way in the last 20 yrs, now they contain sponges to assist with your biological filter.

Just don't wash the sponge out with tap water for cleaning you will destroy the bacteria if your water has chlorine in it.

Instead to wash it out, keep a fish bucket handy and squeeze the sponge out in dechlorinated water.

The skumiest filters are the ones loaded with nice biological good bacteria. Too much in them though will reduce water return into the tank causing a backflow on the intake side.

Very reliable, I run a Whisper 30 on my 55 as a secondary to my Marineland 330. I also make my own cartridges using Black Diamond media, and re use the same frame seeing good bacteria also lives on that.
