Basicly a long skinny plec. Tankmates should be peacefull and not large enough to eat the catfish, they get to about 8 inches long (if they are the most common species), do better when kept in groups and eat a diet of mainly algea.

Is the 8 inches including tail or not? I know it isn't generally but they've gpot such a big tail it might count.

That "tail" you are talking about is still the enlongated body. The actual fin is only teenie weenie.

ok thats good! not to big then! i might get 3 make a bit of a differnt botomfeeder algea eater form the usual!

They are really lovely and very peaceful fish

mine is about 8 inches, I've had him a year and he hasn't grown. He is a very peaceful fish, and like algae although I did once see him eat a bloodworm. He's ONCE buried himself in the sand, but normally doesn't do that, and I had him in a tank with gravel for a long time and he was fine. They are a good indication of water quality, when the water is good, their tail 'whip' grows really long! When it's bad, it gets short.
