Think of getting one as I have a 8 gallon bow front tank doing nothing.

your everyday pet store betta splendens would sufice nicely. all the deifferent "tail typs" ie halfmoon, veiltail, plakat crowntail are all the same species and are genraly very hardy.
for that size of tank you may want to consider a few tank mates. perhaps a few otos (dwarf algae eaters) and a small group of small cory cats, mabey dwarf corys or panda corrys. heating and gentle filtration are a must, and some plantlife wont go amis either :good:

Got the tank out and cleaned it just waiting for it to dry.
Have plenty of plants got to serlise them first there plastic.
Gravel or sand?
Got some mature filter sponge.

8 gallon tank, with a fluval one filter, heater, and lighting.
Need some new ornaments.
Do they like a lot of plants as I tend to use loads.

IME sand looks nicer, more natural, but can be harder to clean, I guess its all really just personal preference!

Thanks jaded12.
Think I would try sand never had it in my tanks before always been gravel.
Just the plants now can I use loads.

Mmhmm, bettas love things to swim in and out of and explore. Just make sure the plants dont have any sharp edges, betta fins can rip easily

Ok thanks.
Have some caves, but going to have a look at the lfs to see if they have some nicer ones.

maybe see if you can get some sort of archways or something, like bogwood or maybe even ceramic bridge or something like that, anything they can go in and out of really, like people like to wander in old ruins....lol or in the forest, i think thats like a betta

a fluval one is too powerful for a betta. you can reduce the flow or disperse it by tying a peice of filter sponge across the front ithe outlet, else get a spray bar for it and angle that against the glass.

betta love plants, you may want to use some real plants too, as they look nice and also help to reduce nitrate in the water, floating plants such as ricca, hornwort and duck weed are all good, and rooted plants such as comboba, elodea, valisneria and anubias.

That's good then as I've just put a arch ornament in with two windows to swim through.

Hoping to get a betta tomorrow waiting for the sand to clear in the water.
Thanks everyone.
I can't believe i'm finally buying a betta.
