Hi, I have never kept fish before and I am thinking of buying a tank. I have saw a fluval 800 and a jewul rio 125. Is one make better than the other or are they much the same?

Not sure about the tank, but IMO, Emperor/Penguins are by far the best filters.

Thanks for the info- any advice on what is best to buy and what fish are best for newbies would be great!

Hello lisa F and welcome to the forum. :hi:

Why not start a thread in the Newbie section and let everyone know you're here?

This is a very friendly forum and I'm sure you'll learn a lot here and have a good time with your hobby. :D

Anyway, you did a very smart thing to come and learn before you set up your aquarium. Too often we see people who come here after they have set up too fast and lost fish. :-(

If you read the pinned threads at the top of this section, you will have a lot of good information to start with.

Lots of luck with your new hobby. I'll be looking forward to your posts. :D

i have the fluval 600 :kana: , or something like that. it's very good, although a little bit hard to do water changes :/ . all in al i thought it was a good kit

thankyou!
I am going to try and buy a tank\filter set next weekend so hopefully everything will run fairly smoothly but I will post any traumas that happen!

you asked about good fish for beginners, well about 5-6 zebra danios and a trio of cories are great (pretty much every lfs stocks them too)

Welcome to the forum :hi:
Its great to see someone asking questions first, rsz suggestions are a great starting point. Another good purchase would be a couple of good books on tropical fish, I would recomend "Baensch Aquarium Atlas Vol 1" and "The Ultimate Aquarium by Mart Bailey & Gina Sandford" IMO both are excellent books and provide a wealth of knowledge also you will be able to check the suitabilty of any new additions to your tank yourself rather than relying on what is sometimes less than ideal advice from some LFS

All the very best with your new tank. Look forward to posts on its progress

NOOOO!!! DON'T GET PENGUIN!!!!! GET TETRA!!! Tetra Is better because I use it and I am the greatest human being around here. I forget what type it is, but it is build by the makers of tetra and it works GREAT!! Plus, I selected it, and anything I do is surely the best decision in the world.

If you need help with ANYTHING on this forum, please feel free to ask ME!!! Thats right, ME!!! I know all the wonders of the world. :kana:

Let me tell you the story about splinters. When one gets splinters, they hurt. However, they start to hurt later. Not right away though. When you realize you have it, it starts to hurt. It is then you want to take it out. Taking it out hurts A LOT!!! But when your done, it is rewarding.

Now, this story had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with ANYTHING on this forum. However, it is a good lesson in life, Thus proof I am the wisest.

Well, I GUESS you can ask others about things also, but Remember, I was about the first person EVER to arrive at this forum, and these people would NOT have the fine aquariums they have right now if it wasn't for me, Commanderdoom21 the first.

And also, Welsome to this forum, I hope you find enough help here. Especially from me, who knows the wonders of the world.

Well, good luck, and remember to get a Tetra built filter. As tetra is the greatest, It starts with a T.

Also, tell me your favorite cheese. 8)

Gotta say depending on how big the tank is, I think eheims are some of the best out their, they last for years and keep the tank spotless, they're also fairly low maintenance.
