Which Shrimps Should I Get?

Hiya,

I keep getting told i need a bigger tank for my plec so thinking of getting rid of it (trading with LFS) and maybe swop to shrimps. I have read on here that they don't take up much of your fish limit within the tank, is this true??

How many should i get and what kind?

Are they ok in sand and gravel bottomed tanks?

You could get 5-6 cherry or amano shrimp. It doesn't matter if you have sand or gravel as I haven't heard of any case of damage caused by a substrate. You didn't mention how big your tank is? Keep a few plants and a piece of driftwood to keep them happy.

Shrimps are good and don't add much to the bioload as you say, however they wont do the same job as a plec. They won't eat the algae off the sides of the glass, so maybe think about getting a small plec, or a group of ottos, as well as shrimp?

voo is right.
I would reccomend a few shrimp and a few Otos.
