There's alot of conflicting opinions over the internet so looking for opinions on it?
I've had neons before and they were great but I'm not sure whether to get neons again or
maybe try Cardinals?

It depends on where the stock is sourced from, most Cardinal Tetra's are wild caught where as a lot of Neon Tetra's are tank bred, wild caught Cardinal Tetra's tend to be a lot hardier than the tank bred Neon Tetra.

I'd say they are about the same, I'd go on what you like the look of best. Both do best in well established tanks.

Cardinals imo :good:

The same, in my experience. For anything under 2 ft long, I would have neons; for anything longer, I would have cardinals.

Had you thought about the 'green' or false neon Paracheirodon simulans?

They're about my very favourite tetra; this about the best pic of them I've ever managed to take;

They don't do well in new set-ups; they often come in wild caught and really, really small; I don't even risk quarantining them any more, but pampered with some good food, in a mature, planted tank they do really well.
