It depends on size and shape. For odd shaped (hex) or very large tanks I like the acrylic, but for smaller and standard rectangle tanks I like the glass. Its more just a matter of what your looking for and person preferance.

lol wow well when i went to the store yesterday i saw an acryllic tank for the first time.... i was wondering what they looked like and i was wondering which one could be better cause its a bigger tank... i think its 55 gal us... and i'm considering getting a bigger tank seeing that i have gotten myself into the situation that i did lol

Glass and Acrylic both scratch easily, but shallow scratches can be buffed out of acrylic.

The main difference is in larger tanks of 5 ft or longer, the glass gets so thick that it begins to distort the view from any angle, and this is where acrylic really benefits.
That said I only use glass even on large tanks 'cause I can't afford acrylic, with a limited budget I'd rather spend the money on the fish.

To me it seems as though acrylic would absorb/leach toxins

I've also heard that if you're keeping plecostomus' you should have all glass, larger plecs have been known to gnaw through acrylic

in your case i would probably go after a 55 gal glass tank. easy to take care of and at that size the view is not at all bad. a couple of plecos for the glass and you should have a good view most all the time
