Hi,

I have an Eheim 2217 currently running on my 4ft aquarium and also have a Fluval 304 filter that I was selling. I have decided to keep the Fluval as my other half has been saying I should keep it as a backup incase something goes wrong with the Eheim.

Any idea which is the best out of the two? The Fluval 304 or the Eheim 2217?

I am wondering, if I should set the Fluval up instead as the eheim needs a clean and looks like I'm going to have to take it apart anyway to clean it?

Any help would be greatfully recieved :D

TIA

Lawrence

I personally have the Eheim 2215 on my tank. Cleaning is not very hard, it's just a takes a little time. Immediatly after you unplug the filter you need to close the intake and return valves. At that point you can then unplug the filter. I set mine in the bath tub and then I open the intake valve and the return valve to allow the water to drain and also to release the pressure so I can actually get the pump portion off. (I learned that the hard way. duh!) Obtain some tank water to use to clean the filter pad and for a simple rinse of the ceramic rings and the stones. Put it all back together and hook it up again, fill it and plug it in. :)

you might want to check the backposts in the hardware section. The general consensus here is that Eheims are the best canisters you can purchase and fluvals are little more than an costly headache. Go with the eheim for sure.

Thanks for the responces, look's like I will clean the Eheim and keep the Fluval as a spare in that case.

Only problem is my Eheim doesn't have any intake and return valves on the pipes, can i buy these seperatly and fit them when I remove the system and clean it??

Thanks Again,

Lawrence

I have a Rena XP 3 that I really like....

I don't know why everybody always bashes the Fluval's. I run a 204 and have absolutely no problems with it. It's whisper quiet, easy to clean and as versatile as any Eheim. I'm not saying the Eheim is bad. I've never used one myself but have friends with them. The Eheim pro's have a good rep but the cheaper Eheim's garner some complaints. So basically you could spend over $200 on an Eheim pro or spend $60 on a Fluval that for me works just as well.
