I know this question gets asked a lot but as my tank cycling (180L Juwel Vision) seems to be nearing a close, in the next few weeks i hope to add some fish.

I know i definately want a Male Betta and some Corydoras (tank already has sand in place),

I would also like some neon tetras and some glowlight tetras but other than that i am stumped....

I am not really keen on livebearers (MIL has mollies and guppies and they we never ending in production of babies!)

So do anyone have any suggestions as to what to add? and in what numbers? (i was thinking a minimum of 6 cory's)

Also i know neons require a mature tank, so if i just added the Betta and cory's and then added the neons down the line would i suffer a mini cycle?

Oh and i dont want a plec - they freak me out!

To be honest, dwarf cichlids are a very nice addition to a tank of your size. Unfortunately i have no experience of keeping a betta with a variety of tank mates and Im not sure it would work..

Tetras can be very nippy towards bettas. When I got mine he had been kept in a large tank of neons and had no fins left. None! I thought it was a female!

A single male dwarf gourami or, as suggested, dwarf cichlids of some kind would be more suitable.

A single male dwarf gourami

I personally wouldn't suggest a gourami as a tankmate for a betta, especially not as a 'safer' alternative to tetras.

Yes, some people keep them together successfully sometimes, but then again lots of people keep tetras and betta together just fine. The risk of fighting isn't worth it IMO.

I suggested it as an alternative to a betta, not in addition. I would never keep them together.
