A small internal filter will do the job just fine. something like a Fluval would be good. I've never used one, but I believe a HOB (Hang On Back) filter would be fine too.

Personally, I like a small power filter for a 10g tank, wuch as Aqua Clear Mini. It does bio and mechanical filtration well, and I like the fact that it provides good water current as well. A small Penguin filter would work as well.

I would use aqua clear mini or 150 . The new model #'s I believe are the 20 and 30. Filters have not changed. I would use aqua clear because you can make your own media, using bags. Foam block can be rinsed in tank water and reused (in bucket). The new models come with Bio max. This is ceramic cylinders in which bacteria will thrive and grow. You are also able to use any type of media you choose or need at any given time. Pretty much anything you can put in a canister filter you can put in a filter bag and use in an aqua clear.

I use ceramic cylinders, lava rock, and bio chem stars in addition to regular media in aquaclears, for biological filtration. I also have added filter floss and marinelands rite cut filter pads you cut to fit yourself. The options are endless.

Check out prices on petsmart.com They cost half of the store price!!!

Buying media in bulk and making you own bags cost a fraction of cartridges used in other filters.

I have aquaclears that are 10 years old and work like new.
