OK everyone, hopefully you can give me some advice. At the moment I have fitted in my 109Ltr tank a Fluval 3 Plus internal filter, which has been running for a couple of months now with no problems. However I also have in my possesion an old Fluval 403 external filter with all the fittings. I know it is an old model, but it has never been used, so should be in perfect working order. What I want to know is, seeing as my tank isn't that big, should I carry on with my 3 Plus internal filter (ie, if it works don't fix it). Or should I fit the external 403 ( Better filtration). I know that if I change over the filters, I will have to run both filters at the same time until the external filter has matured. I have no problem doing this, but would like your thoughts on wether it is a worthwhile upgrade, or if I should leave the tank as it is. Your comments will be very welcome.

Many thanks
Ian

P.S. I know some of you don't like the Fluval filter range, but at the moment, it is all I have.

or you could just run both filters as it will help you water quality you can not over filter a tank

I would prefer not to use both filters as I would either like a filter that clutters up the tankj, but not the outside, or one that takes up space on the outside, but leaves the tank clear. Plus the tank is in the front room and I would like the tank to be as quiet as possible and having both pumps fitted would not necessarily help in that department. For a tank that is 30" long, an external and internal filter seems a bit overkill and would clutter up the area inside and outside the tank. But thank you for your comments, it is just that I would prefer to use either one or the other.

NO Problem.

If your going for quite,

May I suggest the one that you already have in the Tank?

As even though Canister Filters are not that Noisy, Mines fitted inside my Stand.

It does make a little more noise then one thats fitted to the Tank.

But in any event GOOD LUCK to you... And your Fish....

I have a 20g tank (30 inch) and have a fluval 2 inside and a fluval 105 on the outside. It takes up a little more room but if one fails you have an instant backup in your tank. Plus i have slightly pushed the boundaries with my stocking so it helps to have them othrunning anyway.
