Which Crabs Are Freshwater?

Do you mean fully aquatic crabs, or crabs that mainly live on land, but need some water, a bit more info is needed before we can help. Size of tank, any tank mates etc.

Yeah, dizzied is right. Red claw crabs need access to land, brackish conditions and will likely attack other fish.

they live long and happy lives in freshwater too though :hyper:

Uh.. no, they don't.

Their lifespans are cut down severely.

lol once again we see that more than just water type effects how well stock survive. it is unlikley that any of the above quotes are "untrue" in the experiance of the postee. looking at it on balance it would seem better to keep "red crabs" in brackish conditions. but equally they also seem to live well in some freshwater conditions. as my mum used to say "there is more than one way to skin a cat".

They don't live well in freshwater. They're just hardy enough to survive in it for a while.

my point exactly, are we to assume sammy86 is lying? how are we to judge if your comment is more valid than his? could it be that in his experience he found as he says? i have seen 3-4cm red crabs in a freshwater tank, apparently very happy, am i to assume on the strength of your comment that the owner of this tank was trying to "pull the wool over my eyes" by putting crabs from a brackish tank into a freshwater tank for my benifit?

Put it this way red claw crabs don't live near as long as they do in brackish.
