Which Bichir?

I have been thinking of changing the fish in one of my tanks as peaceful community fish bore me now. I was thinking of getting peacock eels but now maybe I'll do bichirs instead. Its a 48 gallon tank with sharp gravel (my dads idea...) and it doesnt have much hiding places. Questions...

1. Is there any kind of bichir that can be put in a 48 gallon?

2. Will sharp gravel hurt the bichir?

Yes you can keep Senegals, Palmas etc in that tank....but i wouldnt purely becuase you have sharp gravel, if you swap the gravel for sand then any of the upperjaws (except the Ornate) will do nicely

I dont have many hiding places, I dont think any if the bichir gets large. Is it possible that I can put a layer of sand above the gravel, or would that not work? And what type of bichirs are there that I can put? Also, I want to make an oddball tank and is there any other fish I can put with the bichir in a 48 gallon?

No the sand would settle and the bichir would still get stabbed by the gravel.

I would do a sengal.

Here is a pic of the tank right now. It was taken a while ago and so there isnt many fish in there right now... I am afraid it will be awhile before I get a bichir because I do not want to part with the few fish I have now. The fish I have right now are 1 golden killifish, 4 black skirt tetras, 4 cherry barbs, 1 american flagfish, 1 mystery snail, 2 dojo loaches, 1 farlowella, and 1 mickey mouse platy.

Hold the siphon above the sand a little bit and hoover the junk off the top of the sand. If you get it too close you'll get sand in the tube Drives me crazy(I have sand)

But sand is better for alot of animals anyway.

saldy it dosent sound a good tank for a birchir, for the main 2 reasons of, gravel because birchirs can eat it and can kill the birchir also it may cut and hurt the birchir and the second reason is that ll of your fish would probably be eaten, birchirs have large mouths and are spose to be kept with any fish tht is half its aqdult size so a senegal could get 8/10" so 4/5" fish are minimum.
