It was suggested that I start a new thread about this, so here goes.

I'm trying to find light-colored sand to switch out my gravel, but when I attempt to get play sand it's always the darker, coarser type sand. See here:

This is Quikrete Play Sand. I guess I'm trying to figure out if all the lots are different, depending on where you are in the U.S., or if there are brands that are consistently lighter and finer. Anyone know?

Thanks for the help ...

I got Quikrete. See my sig pics. Mine is much lighter than yours. :dunno:

I know!! It's so frustrating. I had a friend of mine, who was traveling to a nice big city, grab up a couple bags of play sand, because online it looked like the light stuff like you have. But when she got here with it, it's the same old stuff.

So now I have 150 lbs. of stuff I don't want or need!!!

I'm traveling next week to Minneapolis, so hopefully somebody has some. Sheesh.

I know its not light color, but I was just at Wal-mart in there lawn and garden section and they had bags of Crayola Playsand for about $6 for a 20lb bag. But it was a dark purple. I have Crayola dark blue in my tank and I love it. I got my mine from Home Depot. I havent checked the Crayola website to see if they might have other colors you can order.

I don't know if I am allowed to say it, but I use a particular brand made for aquariums. One color is beige. It is extremely uniform and smaller than what is pictured. It is more expensive than cheapo sands not made for aquariums, but if interested in more info please PM me.

Please don't be so dramatic. Just say your piece.

+1!

I prefer the cheapo stuff myself. The whole point here is that I'm looking for the lighter beige, finer type of play sand. Not purple, not blue, not white. Just the $2.95/50 lbs. stuff you can get at Home Depot in most parts of the country.

We should probably just put this topic to bed. I feel I'll just have to go on a search in person for the stuff.

Try pool filter sand. If you are looking for something cheap in that color that should be your best bet. It is more uniform in size than other cheapo sands. You may have to go to a pool supply store to get it, but it should still run about the same price and be more what you are looking for.
