I just moved - a 9 hour drive with a lot of tanks (I run a large and very fun fishroom). The thinner glass bargain tanks I have (had) didn't fare well, although the fact it was -27 outside didn't help. As they thawed overnight, I got hairline cracks in 7 of them. They're done for.
All of my older, heavier glass tanks made the transition perfectly well. which I take as a lesson.
I made a connection with a local store whose owner I respect, and paid slightly more for better quality tanks (brands don't matter as I'm in another country). So if I'm keeping tanks in the house (I use a garage so spills are less of a worry) I would go for quality. I am a cheapskate, but looking at my stock, every single tank I have ever had that cracked was either a no name bargain deal, or a ... no name bargain deal.
If the price isn't wildly different, I would go with a smaller store I liked because they need the money these days. It might be different if you were buying a dozen tanks, but a few bucks more on one tank to keep the pet chains from destroying the hobby is an investment. If the fish breed and you suddenly want 327 more tanks, then the super bargain thinner glass ones might be an option.
